OUR
STORY
Joyce’s Produce at the NC State Farmers Market originated in 1982 as Mitchell Farms. It was owned by my grandparents, James, and Frances Mitchell. Mitchell Farms started on the farmer’s line and raised everything that was sold. In 1986 my grandfather decided to move the business into the permanent building at the market. My mother, Joyce, started her own business next to my grandparents, and they worked beside each other for many years. When my grandfather’s health declined, my mother acquired their business and renamed the family business Joyce’s Produce, as it is known today.
My mother owned and operated Joyce’s Produce for over 35 years. She enjoyed taking over the family business and continued to help it thrive. Like my grandfather, my mother is a social person. Talking to customers and building friendships brought her joy. Many of those friendships are still dear to her today. Since my mother has retired and I have stepped into the role as a business owner, people still come by and ask about Joyce. We are grateful for the people who have made the family business successful.
My husband, Bruce, and I took over Joyce’s Produce in January 2020, when my mother and her husband, Wayne, graduated into retirement. We are thankful and honored to have the opportunity to continue the family business. Our family consists of MANY children! We have Luke, Savannah & Julianna (twins), Sarah, Sara-Grace, and Chase. When you visit the market, you may be helped by Bruce, myself, or any of the kids that make up our boisterous family.
We hope you are able to shop with us locally at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh, but if not, we appreciate your online support also.
Our family prays that each of you is blessed in all that you do, and we thank you for your support.
Bruce and Whitney Lowery.
